| Pebble UK - Graduated Compression Support Hosiery Specialists for both Men & Women - Product Guide |
For years physicians have been recommending elastic graded compression therapy as a treatment for venous insufficiency. It has been clinically demonstrated that controlled, graduated compression applied to the lower extremities, accelerates the velocity at which blood flows through the deep vein system. It is this increased blood flow velocity that helps to relieve symptoms associated with venous insufficiencies.
Compression hosiery can be worn exactly like your normal socks, tights and hold-up's in every day use. Its therapeutic benefits can serve many different purposes, but it all works in the same way...Graduated Compression Therapy.
If you are already suffering with a problem, we will always suggest that your hosiery completely covers the affected area and that the top band does not stop on or beneath the affected area. |
| What is graduated compression therapy? In a generic sense, the term 'support' is often applied to hosiery that exerts pressure on the legs, causing the wearer to experience a gentle squeezing sensation. From a therapeutic standpoint however, in order to qualify as a true support garment, such a pressure must be graduated.
Graduated means to have greatest compression at the ankle, which gradually reduces along the length of the leg. Furthermore, in order to have beneficial medical applications, this graduated compression must be sufficient enough to assist the flow of blood up the leg and in doing so will prevent or help to reduce symptoms associated with poor blood flow.
Some hosiery that is sold as 'support' hosiery is merely manufactured with a stretch nylon and does not give any controlled gradient, and some has the same amount of pressure all the way up. This type of hosiery will not improve blood flow.
Quality support hosiery featuring a controlled graduated compression design is manufactured on circular knitting machines utilising spandex and the highest quality nylon available. By carefully controlling the amount of compression built into these products, medically correct support hosiery can be made to deliver the necessary support for each leg dimension within a size range. |
| Types of compression The compression itself is measured medically in millimetres of mercury (mm Hg), a measurement of pressure that has been set at the request of the medical community in order to provide a standard by which support hosiery products can be measured and categorized.
Our products are available in three compressions:
1 - Moderate (8-15 mmHg) for people with no or slight circulatory problems - Tired or aching feet and legs, slight swelling, venous disorders, spider veins and early varicose veins
2 - Firm (15-20 mmHg) for people with current circulatory problems - Swelling, varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, chronic venous insufficiency and varicosities during pregnancy.
3 - Extra Firm (20-30 mmHg) for people with advanced circulatory problems - Varicose Veins, Venous Thrombosis, Ulceration and inflammation of the lower legs, Severe Phlebitis, Thrombophlebitis, Lymphedema, Acute Edema, Acute venous insufficency.
Those who have never had any lower leg problems can wear both of our moderate and firm compressions. It is only those who have suffered or is suffering with lower leg problems that should wear the firmer compressions. |
| Sizing Because of the scientific way that our products are made, sizing is unique to that of normal hosiery. The majority of our products do not require foot size as a measurement (although this has been taken into account with the design of each type available). The size of the product is determined by your own personal measurements, maximising the beneficial effects of the compression system.
As you browse through our catalogue pages, you will see a link to the bottom of each product listed for its 'size chart'. This will direct you straight to its relevant size chart and you will then be able to see which of your measurements is needed for that particular product.

| What is MicroCool? MicroCool is an agent that changes the aqueous nature of the fibres during the dye process. It absorbs moisture away from the wearers body and so provides a comfortable coolness when worn.
It also contains an anti-bicrobial agent that inhibits bacteria and chronic foot odour, leaving your feet and legs feeling fresh and cool throughout the day.
Only our 'Therafirm' products are made with MicroCool, so look out for these in our catalogues. |
