What compression level do I need?

Usually the best person to answer this question is your doctor, nurse, midwife, surgeon or a health professional, however, if you have no signs or symptoms of any venous circulatory problems such as varicose veins, swelling, and heavy feeling legs, then usually, a preventative lightweight compression will be sufficient. If you do have any of the above symptoms then you may find a medium compression is more beneficial. For those with advanced/acute problems such as Thrombosis, Lymphoedema, DVT, Chronic Venous Insufficiency, Ulceration, Advanced Varicose Veins then usually a higher compression is needed, however, if using a high compression, please double check with your Doctor that you are ok to wear this. (This is a general list of symptoms to describe some of the problems that can be helped by the use of graduated compression stockings, it is not an exhaustive list). Those with present arterial disorders, an existing DVT or congestive Heart failure should not use compression hosiery, but should speak to a doctor about it first.

How do I know what length of hosiery to choose?

Ideally you need to select the length of hosiery so that it comes 'up and over' the affected area. For example, if you are suffering with swollen ankles, you could use a knee high, if you have a varicose vein in thigh area, you may need a thigh-high, for problems occurring at the top of the leg and groin area, you may need to get tights. You need to make sure the hosiery does not stop on or under the affected area.

My measurements fall across different sizes, how do I choose a size?

Please call one of our customer service team for advice.

I have received my goods from you but they look extremely small, have I ordered the correct size?

As long as you have measured yourself correctly and ordered the correct size, they should fit you. Compression hosiery and garments do start off small in their 'unworn' state because after they have stretched around the body, leg or arm, they need to compress the body in all the right places. Compression hosiery is designed to fit correctly in its 'worn' state, due to the therapy it exerts on the body's blood circulation.

Why is the gusset hanging low on my support tights?

They may not have been put on correctly, in this instance, please refer to the 'care and fitting instructions' leaflet sent with your order. Alternatively, you may need the next size up to accommodate the leg length.

Why is my support hosiery cutting in at the groin?

You need to make sure your support hosiery is not twisted at the top and that you have smoothed out the material on the legs, working from top to bottom. Please refer to our 'care and fitting instructions' leaflet sent with your order. Alternatively, you may need a different size to accomodate the thigh circumference.

Why are my knee highs cutting in at the tops?

You may have ordered the incorrect size or they could be too long. Please call us with your measurements so we can advise you.

What is the life expectancy of these support tights?

Elasto-compression garments should be replaced every 3-6 months.

Our top tips for longevity: Keep toenails cut and filed, and skin on the feet filed and moisturised, to prevent snagging from hard skin and jagged nails. Always wear hosiery gloves when putting on, taking off and washing. Always hand wash in luke warm water with a mild detergent or hosiery wash, air dry away from a direct heat source. Washing by hand prevents them catching on other clothes in the washing machine, but if they do specify to put them in a washing machine, always use a hosiery bag to protect your hosiery.

Like any knitted garment, we cannot guarantee your hosiery will be free from accidental damage, such as snags, pulls, catches, holes and ladders.

Why do my hold ups keep slipping down? The sticky top bands may need a wipe. Us humans are constantly shedding small particles of skin, and unfortunately, these can sometimes get stuck to the top bands, making them ineffective and non-sticky. To prevent this from occurring, we recommend to wash the sticky top bands every day, after use. Additionally, if you need to use powder or moisturiser on your legs, either use this at night or clean the tops of the legs before you put your hosiery on. If this fails, try our skin-friendly, 'Body Adhesive' that washes off with water (listed under our 'donning accessories' category).

I can purchase support hosiery on the high street for much less money, why?

Some support hosiery, although advertised as support hosiery, are not made with a graduated compression and not manufactured with an mmHg (medically recognised compression level). Always look for the 'mmHg' and make sure it is 'graduated', for example, 8-15 mmHg, 18-21 mmHg, 20-30 mmHg as it is the gradual squeeze that aids the blood flow. Without graduated compression, the hosiery is just a stretch nylon item that will not aid your blood flow effectively. The manufacturing and testing process of a proper, medical grade compression stocking is much more involved, compared to that of an everyday pair of tights. Graduated compression hosiery is designed for medical, cosmetic and leg health care reasons, by interacting with the blood circulation.

Some high street support hosiery is made as 'one size fits all' or by 'shoe size', we would not recommend this to help with genuine, medical conditions associated with poor venous return.
